On the terms of stay of journalists in Ukraine

Accredited foreign journalists and representatives of foreign mass media were allowed to stay in Ukraine without restrictions of the term of stay

The Government of Ukraine adopted the Decision No. 627 as of May 27, 2022 (entered into force on May 31, 2022), that allows foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine to work as a journalist or representative of foreign mass media and have passed accreditation in accordance with the established procedure, to stay legally in Ukraine without any limitation of the terms of stay for the period of martial law and 30 days after its termination or lifting.

To be within the scope of this provision a foreign journalist or mass media representative must:

⁃ arrive at Ukraine after the start of the period of martial law;
⁃ be accredited according to the established procedure.

In general, the period of stay for foreigners is limited by a term of visa, or by a period of 90 days in a 180-day period for visa-free entry regime.

It should be noted that documents for obtaining TRP on the basis of work in Ukraine as a foreign journalist or mass media representative should be submitted no later than 15 working days before the legal term of stay expires. In the view of recently adopted document No. 627 as of May 27, 2022, the documents could be submitted without time restrictions.

For getting TRP it is necessary to submit to State Migration Service:

– passport translation;
– insurance policy for 1 year;
– the appeal of a foreign mass media;
– the plea of the Ministry of Reintegration of Ukraine.
